WHEW!

Finished, and just in time.

These cuties are my entry for =Magycal and =IdoodleChibis's "Draw Our OCs Friendship Contest." [link]
I was intrigued by their characters, Nikka and Milo. They have so many quirky little fashion traits! I thought it would be a fun challenge to try and plush their ocs, instead of drawing them.

How I did it:

Nikka:
First, I crocheted her body from the top of her head down. No hair, yet! When I got to her legs I tunisian crocheted one stocking (to give it the checkered effect) and single crocheted the other one for that cute mix-match look. Then, using all the colors of the rainbow, I crocheted her arms and attached them. I crocheted back loops only for her arm warmers, just to give them some texture. I made her shorts from some denim scraps and careful machine sewing to ensure the perfect fit. Her top is a small bit of stretch jersey cut and tied onto her.

Then came the hair.
I used a technique taught to me by the darling *Kayla-san. You braid a long piece of yarn, sew it to the head, and knot the individual hairs into the braid. Five hours later (^^;) I was trimming and tying Nikka's carrot-colored pony tails. Her eyes are super-mini black buttons.

Milo:
I made Milo second. She was much easier. There were fewer colors to switch between! I started her the same way: crocheting the body from the top down. When I got to her black dress, I switched yarn and crocheted it directly on to her body. Then I made her cutesy stockings/legs (using back loops only again to get a nice texture). Then I made and attached her arms and started working on her hair. Milo's hair was much easier to weave than Nikka's, but Milo's required a lot more styling after it was all tied on to her head. I took a break from hair-making to sew her fuzzy red hoodie. The hoodie was sewn entirely by hand, very carefully. You can pull her hood up, but it really messes with her hair.

Once her hair and hoodie were finished (hair takes SO. LONG.) I sewed her mini button eyes on and she was DONE!

Mission accomplished. It took a lot longer than I was expecting, but I am really happy with the outcome. Perhaps people will be interested in commissioning plush of their own ocs? :D
